Just a thought
Adoption has been on my mind alot lately. As you know, we are foster parents. We have three children and want to eventually adopt. It would be great if we can adopt the ones that we have! However, DHS teaches you to want to keep reunification formost in your mind. It would be great if these kids could go back to their family; and it would be great if we could adopt them. I feel like it takes someone special to be a foster parent. No, I'm not calling myself special, but I do think my husband does a much better job than I do! Of course he says the same thing about me. Anyway, my husband is wonderful with these children. He comes from a family with a similiar background. He lived with his grandma for 6 months. So he knows a little bit of what these kids are going through. That is why I think he is doing such a great job. My background is totally different. A wonderful loving christian family is my background. It is a bit more difficult for me to understand what these kids are feeling. Yes, I feel for them, but understanding the terrible feeling in the pit of your tummy because you don't know when you'll get to see mom or dad again, is something I don't understand. When they ask you if their mom and dad loves them, or why did they leave us at home alone, it is hard to explain it to a child that doesn't even have to go to school yet. Making them know that their parents do love them, and making them understand that they can't go back home yet is a tough job. So, reader, if you would like to get into something rewarding and you can handle it, become a foster parent. Or better yet, if you know someone who is a foster parent or an adoptive parent, give them a much deserved pat on the back for a job well done!.... Marlene

You have a VERY special ability to be able to take in these children.
I know for me it would be hard to give them up.
I guess you just have to realize that you have done what you could for them while you had a chance.
